Our faculty stay connected to the people and organizations that are advancing architecture and facility management. They keep current with best practices and trends. Their networks become your networks.
Ferris is a teaching university, which means your professors are the people you engage with in the classroom and the studio. They know your name, where you’re from, and what interests you.
Professor Kate O’Connor came to Ferris State in Fall of 2021. She brings to our program more than 20 years of professional experience in architecture and construction in Colorado, Louisiana and Pennsylvania. She has over eight years of teaching experience in the School of Architecture at Marywood University in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where she was an Associate Professor. She has also published numerous journal articles on a diverse range of topics including design education, socially responsible architecture, sustainability and urbanism. She has also presented at numerous international conferences in places such as Italy, Belgium, Denmark, Brazil, Singapore South Korea and Portugal.
Professor O’Connor earned her Master of Architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans, and her Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Bachelor of Architecture from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC.
Her interest in community-oriented service-learning projects will be particularly valuable as Professor O’Connor takes on the role of Coordinator for the Small Town Studio component of the Architecture and Sustainability program. Likewise, her experience teaching foundation courses will serve students well in their first- and second-year courses in the Architectural Technology program.
