Courtney (Parks) Valier, graduated with dual degrees in Architecture and Sustainability (2013) and Construction Management (2014). She continued her architectural education at Kendall College of Art and Design for a Master of Architecture (2016). Courtney chose Ferris because of flexibility and opportunity.
“When I was deciding on an undergraduate program, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in the built environment, but wasn’t sure I wanted to fully commit to architecture. After 2 years in the architecture program at Ferris, I had the flexibility to pursue a different track – construction management, interior design (Kendall), or facility management. I chose construction management and architecture.”
“Ferris also offered many opportunities for me to be involved in activities outside of the architecture program. I participated in the Honors Program, student organizations, several volunteer programs, and intramural sports. Through these opportunities, I was able to have a well-rounded college experience.”
Courtney is working as a graduate architect at Progressive AE in Grand Rapids, MI. She balances a variety of architectural projects that range from higher education, religious, multi-family housing, to the design of work environments.
Like other ARST/CM alumni, the culture of the studio and working closely with her classmates on studio projects was one of her fondest memories. Additionally, the opportunity to participate with a team of architecture and construction management students on two design-build national competitions in Chicago was a highlight.
